Kemal and I love making pizza, and last night we a pesto pizza with a whole wheat crust. It turned out fabulous!

The pizza dough recipe came from Simply Life. I love that the crust has flax seeds to provide added fiber, and besides that it just tastes great!

Then instead of using tomato or marinara sauce on the pizza, I made some pesto sauce from scratch. I saw a pesto pizza in Whole Foods about a month ago, and that’s where I got the idea to make a pesto pizza to begin with.

Normally, I make pesto in the blender, but after coming across this article at New Italian Recipes, I decided to try making my pesto by using my mortar and pestle to grind one bunch of basil and about 1/2 cup of sunflower seeds. (I know pine nuts are supposed to be used, but I didn’t have any so I figured sunflower seeds would work out just fine, and sure enough…they did!)

I enjoyed grinding the basil and sunflower seeds, and when I was done, I stirred in one minced garlic clove, some olive oil and some freshly grated Parmesan cheese. The pesto wasn’t as smooth made this way, but it tasted wonderful nonetheless.

The pesto sauce was so good I ate a spoon of it by itself. Yum!!!

Anyway, after I shaped the pizza dough in the pan, I spread some pesto sauce on the unbaked dough. Then Kemal sliced some tomatoes and onions and added them on top of the pesto sauce. Then he topped the pizza with some goat cheese and Bulgarian feta cheese, and we baked it on 400 degrees Fahrenheit until the dough was done. It was so good!

And we’re enjoying leftovers tonight!

It’s a pizza I’ll definitely make again!

So what’s your favorite kind of pizza? My is classic margherita pizza.

Hamburger buns are incredibly quick and easy to make. They take only about an hour or so from start to finish, and they taste way better than anything you’ll buy pre-packaged in the grocery store. Besides that, they’re firmer and can hold the weight of a hamburger and all your favorite toppings much better than store-bought buns.

They can be used for all your favorite sandwiches. After making these buns, I had a leftover egg yolk, as well as some leftover egg white that needed to be used, so I just made myself an omelet (without cheese), and then put it and some tomato slices on the bun and made a sandwich. Oh man it was so good!!!

Tonight we’re making veggie burgers with cauliflower, so these buns will be perfect for them!

You can also use ‘em to make grilled cheese sandwiches, tuna salad sandwiches, or sloppy Joes. Trust me, your family’s not only gonna love the smell of freshly baked bread, but they’ll also gonna love how these buns taste a whole lot more than the store-bought ones! And what’s great is that if you want hot dog buns, all you got to do is just shape them differently! Is that cool or what??!!

Okay…you ready to make some?!

Most of the ingredients in the bread are things I usually always have on-hand, and the bread is so fast and easy that I can make a wholesome, hearty loaf of bread in under an hour. It also tastes great! It’s soft and moist on the inside and the toasted oats on the top, bottom, and sides make a nice contrasting texture…a crunchy oat goodness! The bread is full of flavor and satisfying. What more could you ask for?

I cut my finger at work last night, and that means I can’t knead bread until it’s healed. So anyway, I was browsing recipes online and found a recipe for whole wheat rolls which don’t require kneading. I decided to try it, but I modified the recipe and also decided to make a double batch since we tend to eat a lot of bread. I’m glad I made as much as I did because the rolls are to die for!

Here’s a quick picture that I took on top of my stove because there was no time to set up the studio. You can see that we need to work on cutting the dough pieces more precisely so the crescent rolls have a nicer shape. Hopefully next time we make them they’ll be prettier, but as far as the taste is concerned, they’re fantastic!
