Watermelon Margarita and Watermelon Granita

There’s nothing better than ice cold watermelon on a hot summer day…except for maybe a watermelon margarita

or watermelon granita.

Both are super easy to make.

You do need a blender for the margarita  and the granita because you’ll need to puree your watermelon.

Citrus Slushie

I love slushies because they’re cold and refreshing, and they’re also a great way to cool down when you’re really hot. But let’s face it, they’re just not very nutritious, and I always hate it when all the flavoring is sucked out with my straw and I’m left with a bunch of flavorless ice. Yuck!

After letting the sugar/coffee mixture cool, I stirred in vodka (we used Belvedere). Then I poured the mixture in … [read more]

Cherry Tangerine Screwdriver for Valentine’s Day

It’s pretty.

It’s a beautiful shade of red.

And it tastes wonderful too!

Tangerine screwdrivers are great too, and that’s one of our favorite drinks.

It’s just tangerine juice and vodka (plain vodka or tangerine vodka is fine).

But when you add grenadine or maraschino cherry juice, look what happens.

Give a try for Valentine’s Day (or any day … [read more]

Trinidad Punch de Creme (Chocolate-Coconut Rum Cocktail)

Here in the U.S., eggnog is considered to be our traditional Christmas drink. In Trinidad, however, it’s Punch de Creme.

I’ve seen several different recipes for Punch de Creme, some of which are made with eggs and sweetened condensed milk. I liked the recipe I found where it was made without eggs but rather with chocolate … [read more]

Making Mojitos

We fell in love with mojitos when we had them this summer at Havana Rumba, a local Cuban restaurant. The food was really good, but their mojitos made quite an impression on us…so much so that we started making them ourselves at home. Here’s a picture of a mojito I made this evening.

You start with … [read more]
